Cricket in Lanzarote started in the 90’s following a succession of games organised by the first club on the island; Lanzarote Cricket Club. Over the years this developed into the first official cricket league in Lanzarote in 2005, consisting of The L.C.C. side, and the newly formed teams of Playa Blanca C.C. and St. George’s C.C. based in Puerto del Carmen, predominantly played at the picturesque (and Astroturf), football ground in Yaiza. By 2006 8 teams had formed to make up the island league. Now, stronger than ever, we are looking forward to developing cricket further and strengthening our ties with Cricket España.

Since the early days of island cricket, touring teams from within Spain and the UK have been over to compete with selected teams over here (some touring teams have returned 3 times), with over 100 players on the island, it enables us to select a side to compete at a similar level to the touring teams.Lanzarote’s top squad – S.E.T.T.O.

Our top squad of players compete in the Spanish National Club Championship in La Manga each year, and we have a mix of younger and senior players who are either learning the game, or some just playing for the fun, enjoying the social life that goes with it !
We now have the backing of Cricket Espana, including coaching courses, umpiring courses and funding towards equipment and  youth development. The practice nets are set up at the side, and we use a Flixc mat on top of synthetic grass football pitches which has been designed and approved by the ICC, and gives a true consistent bounce to help the batsman, but also favours the quicker bowler with the ball coming through with pace. Just 60 miles off the coast of Africa Lanzarote is ideal for winter practice or pre-season warm-up games.  In 6 years of league cricket on the island there has never been a match abandoned due to rain. 95% of the fixtures have been played in glorious sunshine, even through the winter months. Check-out our calender for tournaments throughout the year.

S.E.T.T.O. can organise all aspects of the touring cricket team’s trip over here to Lanzarote – advising groups where to book flights – we can reserve all types of accommodation, from economy self-catering apartments, up to 3, 4, and 5 star hotels depending on the requirements of the team and the non-playing members of the party. A wide selection of social events and excursions are on offer, as well as transport to and from the airport and match venues. We can help create a tailor-made holiday of 3, 4 days or more, to suit your groups’ needs, budget and requirements.

Beeston and Toton Sycamore CC

Beeston and Toton Sycamore CC (BaTS) have twice toured Lanzarote in March 2011 and September 2012. On both occasional the weather has been great for playing cricket, the nightlife in Puerto Del Carmen caters for all with the old harbour bars & restaurants for the older players, and the nightclubs on the strip for the younger players. But what makes Lanzarote such a great place to tour is the slick organisation by the LCA Chairman Jack Talbot, Leslie scoring every game, the roaming reporter Gill and the way the Lanzarote players conduct themselves during and after the games, they’re a great set of lads and a credit to the island. The cricket is competitive, yet played in a great spirit, with good banter with the Lanzarote players.
BaTS have toured five other countries, but in my opinion Lanzarote offers the best all round tour.
